Mill Valley’s Steps Lanes and Paths are a wonderful City resource, unique to our town and seeped in our town’s history. Many were created during the initial development of the community as routes to the downtown stores and the railway to the San Francisco ferries running out of Sausalito.
Today these Steps, Lanes and Paths, especially some of the hillside staircases, are viewed not only as recreational pathways, but as CRITICAL PEDESTRIAN ESCAPE ROUTES IN CASE OF WILDFIRE.
Maps are available for sale for $5 at City Hall, the Mill Valley Community Center and the Mill Valley Library. BUY ONE AND LEARN FAST ROUTES OUT OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
A blue “E” sign on the road surface points to a selected Staircase, Lane or Path that may be the fastest or safest way downhill on foot in an emergency.
